Child Safety Action Plan
Gippsland Musical Theatre Company is committed to enacting out Child Safety Action Plan. Below are our commitments based on the 11 Child Safe Standards.
STANDARD 1 – Cultural Safety and Inclusion

We begin all events with an Acknowledgement of Country.

Our programming is free from cultural appropriation, including within concert material.

A cultural consultant will advise on program development and event planning.

We support pathways for Aboriginal students into full-time training and employment within our company.
STANDARD 2 – A Culture of Child Safety

Our leaders, staff, volunteers, and students are united in prioritising child safety in all aspects of our work.

Concerns for safety are taken seriously, and action is always taken when necessary.

Senior leadership routinely reviews our approach to child safety and wellbeing to ensure ongoing improvement.
STANDARD 3 – Empowering Children and Young People

Our team receives training to support children in expressing themselves and raising concerns.

We encourage friendships, peer support, and challenge exclusion or bullying through inclusive practice.
STANDARD 4 – Family and Community Engagement

Staff and volunteers are trained to recognise and act on signs of abuse or harm.

Families and community members are invited to contribute feedback on our child safety policies and practices.
STANDARD 5 – Equity and Respect for Diversity

Our team is supported with guidance to recognise diverse needs and reduce vulnerability to harm.

Leaders actively promote equity and respect for every child in our care.
STANDARD 6 – Safe Recruitment and Onboarding

All job advertisements include our commitment to child safety and wellbeing.

Our recruitment process includes interviews, reference checks, and Working with Children Checks.

New staff and volunteers receive induction on our Code of Conduct, child safety policy, reporting obligations, and safety procedures.
STANDARD 7 – Complaints and Feedback

We maintain records of all complaints and safety concerns and respond promptly.

Information on how to raise concerns is made accessible to children, families, and the wider community.
STANDARD 8 – Ongoing Training and Capacity Building

All team members receive child safety training on induction and at regular intervals.

Training includes identifying harm, managing disclosures, reporting requirements, and creating culturally safe environments.
STANDARD 9 – Risk Management and Online Safety

Our risk assessments consider feedback from staff, children, and families.

Third-party agreements include child safety clauses.

We provide guidance on online safety, including cyberbullying, grooming, and digital risks.
STANDARD 10 – Continuous Improvement

Incidents and policy breaches are reviewed to identify and address systemic issues.

Outcomes and improvements from reviews are communicated openly with staff, families, and the community.
STANDARD 11 – Policy Review and Accessibility
